When I first thought of writing about the UK I envisaged it would encompass the complete British-Isles. However, the more I thought about the project, the more the truth dawned – that this book should be about the counties north of Watford Gap. I have no wish to exclude large parts of the UK on the grounds of some prejudicial dislike, quite the contrary, I spent a good deal of my formative years with Nipper the Dog at the Hayes headquarter's of EMI music and my literary agent is based in London. My daughter lives in the beautiful county of Hampshire, as does a good friend. I have also been known to motor down to deepest Cornwall or Sussex. So you see, I'm not unacquainted with the SOUTH. Which is more than can be said for a charming lady I met recently whilst on holiday in the town of Kalkan, Turkey.
