Extract from The New Travel Book -
North of Watford Gap - John Brown
You'll never know the effort it takes for a proud Lancastrian to venture into Yorkshire in general and Leeds in particular, but in my quest for truth and a semi-balanced book, that's exactly where I am now heading. With Elland Road Stadium (the home of once glorious Leeds United) on my right hand side, I descended into Leeds centre. I've always found the roads around Leeds utterly confusing, and clearly some things just don't change. After finding myself inadvertently on the road for Skipton, I managed the impossible, and found a way back that didn't involve a multiple car pile up or a reprimand from the 'boys in blue'. Ignoring the inner ring road (I'm sorry but I've always found difficulty with this concept), modern-day Leeds is clean and scrubbed, and out to 'show off'.
